What is fraud monitoring?
Fraud monitoring is a system that checks your check card and credit card transactions, both signature and PIN based, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to catch fraud while it is happening.
What types of transactions are considered suspicious for fraud?
Criminal behavior associated with card fraud have been tracked and documented. Trends include the types of items purchased and the dollar amounts spent among other things. At the point of sale, when a transaction is being authorized, a risk value is assigned to the transaction. When the risk of fraud is “very high,” the authorization is declined and an attempt will be made to contact you.
Please keep your phone number, particularly your cell phone number updated at Elevations Credit Union so you can be reached at the point of transaction:
How will I be notified?
If I missed a fraud alert call, what number do I call them back?
You may contact Fidelity Fraud Alert Management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling them at:
How will it be confirmed that they are talking with the true card owner?
Your identity will be confirmed by asking an appropriate verification question, or if you call them back by confirming that the phone number you are calling from matches the phone number on file. If the phone number does not match, you will be asked to verify with the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.
Can I call the Credit Union instead of the fraud alert company if I receive one of these calls?
No. The fraud alert systems are in place to more quickly and accurately verify your transactions, and these companies are directly responsible for handling the 24 hour fraud monitoring of your account.
Does this mean that I don't need to monitor my account as closely?
No. You will still need to monitor your account for suspicious activity or unauthorized charges that the fraud alert systems may not detect.
Do I need to sign up for this service? Is there a cost?
No. All of our members here at Elevations Credit Union are provided this service free of charge, with no activation required.
