Your Race. Your Community. Your Credit Union.
Credit Unions are essential to the financial life of consumers and their community because:
- Credit Unions are democratic not-for-profit cooperatives that provide all of the products and services you’d normally find at a bank.
- The Boards of Directors of credit unions are unpaid volunteers charged with the primary responsibility of making certain the credit union is being run for the benefit of the account holders. This is very different from a bank where the Boards of Directors are paid to protect the interest of the shareholders, most of which are not even customers of the bank.
- Credit Unions are owned by the member-customers so income and retained earnings are returned to the members in the form of better rates and fewer and lower fees.
- Credit Unions are not-for-profit, allowing them to put their account holders first.
- Credit Unions are local. Unlike most banks that are owned by holding companies in faraway cities. Money deposited at a credit union and money loaned by the credit union stays in the local economy.
- Because Credit Unions are local, they invest in and support local needs and causes.
- The Credit Union Harvest Run-Walk is just one example of how credit unions cooperate together for the betterment of the community and its important non-profit service providers.
Refer your family or friends to a Credit Union. They will get better rates, save money on fees and get better service – they will thank you!
