The Elevation Foundation is proud to support the communities we serve through scholarships for higher education, community grants and financial assistance.
The Elevations Foundation Grants Cycle opens August 1st each year. We close the cycle on September 15th and make awards in November.
Our focused giving areas include:
- Early childhood development, and environmental education and sustainability.
- Elevations Foundation does not accept grant applications from unsolicited sources.
- The Foundation has selected organizations within our key focus areas.
- These organizations receive a written request to submit a grant application from the Foundation.
- Typical awards range from $2,000 - $5,000 annually.

Elevations Credit Union has a proud heritage with deep roots in education. As such, the Elevations Foundation is proud to support 7 named scholarship initiatives. Our scholarship program opens at the start of each year on January 1st. We accept applications through March 15th. Awards are granted at our Annual Foundation celebration in May.
The following recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Elevations Foundation:
Don E. Neuburger Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1988 by the Board of Directors of the Longs Peak Credit Union to honor Don E. Neuburger. Mr. Neuburger served as founder and CEO of Longs Peak Credit Union for 35 years. Mr. Neuburger, an electrical engineer by training, established the credit union in 1953 to serve the employee’s of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Northern Colorado. Elevations is pleased to keep Mr. Neuburger’s legacy alive through this scholarship initiative.
Wm. C. “Bill” Sterner Memorial Scholarship
Named in honor of Wm. C. “Bill” Sterner, Elevations Credit Union President and CEO from 2000 – 2008. Mr. Sterner was active in the credit union movement at all levels, state and local as well as national and international. Mr. Sterner’s passion for credit unions was rooted in a strong sense of education and consumer advocacy. Mr. Sterner epitomized the spirit of the credit union movement. The mark he left on Elevations as well as the entire credit union movement is exemplified by a strong sense of volunteerism and education. We are pleased to offer this scholarship in Mr. Sterner's name.
M.R. Hellie Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of M.R. Hellie, Elevations Credit Union President from 1964 to 1986. Through his vision and leadership, Mr. Hellie was instrumental in expanding our Credit Union's member services and furthering the national credit union movement. The M. R. Hellie Scholarship is open to current seniors graduating from an accredited Colorado high school who are applying for, or who have been accepted for admission to a college or university. Applicants must be members of Elevations Credit Union. Selection is based on financial need, personal and career goals, scholarship and merit. Awards range from $500.00 to $5,000.00. The judges will determine the number and amount of scholarships based on the merit and need of the applicants.

Ray Johnson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor P. Raymond Johnson, a founding member of Elevations Credit Union and dedicated volunteer from 1953-2005. Mr. Johnson also had a long and storied career as an employee of the University of Colorado.
To celebrate Mr. Johnson’s many contributions, this scholarship is awarded in collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Arts and Sciences.
Elevations Scholars, University of Colorado at Boulder A partnership with The University of Colorado and Elevations Credit Union has resulted in Elevations Credit Union's commitment to $75,000 in direct scholarships annually.
The Elevations Foundation has established criteria and works directly with the Office of Financial Aid to select these scholars.
Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship
(deadline: February 28, 2016)
This scholarship was established in honor of Rhonda Herrman, an employee of the St. Vrain Valley Credit Union. Mrs. Herrman was influential in establishing the Credit Union's Community Involvement Committee as a way to give back to the communities that the credit union served. The Elevations Foundation is happy to continue Mrs. Herrman’s vision through this scholarship program.
Two (2) scholarships for $1,000 each are awarded each May to graduating seniors of the St. Vrain Valley School District who are planning to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or trade school. Graduating seniors, who meet the application requirement of having at least 75 hours of volunteer or community service over the past 12 months, are eligible to apply. Scholars are selected by the Education Foundation of the St. Vrain Valley School District based on the aforementioned volunteer hours and financial need.
Boulder County Latina League Scholarship
Elevations Foundation is pleased to support the Boulder County Latina League Scholarship initiative. The League provides scholarships and other needed support and encouragement to enable qualified minority students to attend colleges and universities as a step toward becoming fully integrated into the local community and economy. Since its beginnings in 1999, BCLL has awarded 238 scholarships totaling $193,000. In addition, the University of Colorado often matches these awards for students attending CU. The League works in partnership with Impact on Education.
Brayman-Beach $5,000 College Scholarship
(deadline is March 28, 2016)
The Brayman-Beach College Scholarship is named in honor of two visionary leaders in the credit union movement, Susan J. Brayman and Carroll D. Beach. This scholarship is available to credit union members who are at least 16 years of age and are pursuing an undergraduate business degree.
One Brayman-Beach scholarship is awarded annually by the Mountain West Credit Union Foundation.
