Elevations Credit Union has deep roots in education.

Elevations Foundation is proud to support numerous local scholarship initiatives. Since 2010, Elevations Foundation has provided over $320,000 in scholarships to local graduating high school seniors in their pursuit of higher education. All of Elevations Foundation’s scholarship recipients have a proven track record in academics and community engagement, but most importantly they have a financial need.

Together, Elevations Credit Union and the Elevations Foundation provide over $200,000 annually in scholarships to support the students of our communities and invest in our future.

Elevations Foundation Scholarships - How to Apply

Our 2019 scholarship cycle has closed.


Beginning January 1, 2020, you may apply for the following scholarships, which are awarded by the Scholarship Committee of Elevations Foundation:

Don E. Neuburger Memorial Scholarship

For high school seniors attending an accredited high school in the Thompson School District.

Award amounts: $500 to $5,000.

This scholarship was established in 1988 by the Board of Directors of the Longs Peak Credit Union to honor Don E. Neuburger. Mr. Neuburger served as founder and CEO of Longs Peak Credit Union for 35 years. Mr. Neuburger, an electrical engineer by training, established the credit union in 1953 to serve the employees of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Northern Colorado. Elevations is pleased to keep Mr. Neuburger’s legacy alive through this scholarship initiative.

Wm. C. “Bill” Sterner Memorial Scholarship

For high school seniors attending an accredited Colorado high school who are applying for and are planning to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Award amounts: $500 to $5,000.

This scholarship is named in honor of Wm. C. “Bill” Sterner, Elevations Credit Union President and CEO from 2000 – 2008. Mr. Sterner was active in the credit union movement at all levels, state and local as well as national and international. Mr. Sterner’s passion for credit unions was rooted in a strong sense of education and consumer advocacy. Mr. Sterner epitomized the spirit of the credit union movement. The mark he left on Elevations as well as the entire credit union movement is exemplified by a strong sense of volunteerism and education. We are pleased to offer this scholarship in Mr. Sterner's name.

M.R. Hellie Memorial Scholarship

For high school seniors attending an accredited Colorado high school who are applying for or have been accepted for admission to a college or university.

Award amounts: $500 to $5,000.

This scholarship was established in honor of M.R. Hellie, Elevations Credit Union President from 1964 to 1986. Through his vision and leadership, Mr. Hellie was instrumental in expanding our Credit Union's member services and furthering the national credit union movement. The M. R. Hellie Scholarship is open to current seniors graduating from an accredited Colorado high school who are applying for, or who have been accepted for admission to a college or university. Applicants must be members of Elevations Credit Union. Selection is based on financial need, personal and career goals, scholarship and merit. The judges will determine the number and amount of scholarships based on the merit and need of the applicants.

Elevations Scholars, University of Colorado at Boulder

A partnership with The University of Colorado and Elevations Credit Union has resulted in Elevations Credit Union's commitment to $75,000 in direct scholarships annually. The Elevations Foundation has established criteria and works directly with the Office of Financial Aid to select these scholars.

Rhonda Herrman Community Involvement Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Rhonda Herrman, an employee of the St. Vrain Valley Credit Union. Mrs. Herrman was influential in establishing the Credit Union's Community Involvement Committee as a way to give back to the communities that the credit union served. The Elevations Foundation is happy to continue Mrs. Herrman’s vision through this scholarship program.

Two (2) scholarships for $1,000 each are awarded each May to graduating seniors of the St. Vrain Valley School District who are planning to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or trade school. Graduating seniors, who meet the application requirement of having at least 75 hours of volunteer or community service over the past 12 months, are eligible to apply. Scholars are selected by the Education Foundation of the St. Vrain Valley School District based on the aforementioned volunteer hours and financial need. For more information

Boulder County Latina League Scholarship

Elevations Foundation is pleased to support the Boulder County Latina League Scholarship initiative. The League provides scholarships and other needed support and encouragement to enable qualified minority students to attend colleges and universities as a step toward becoming fully integrated into the local community and economy. Since its beginnings in 1999, BCLL has awarded 238 scholarships totaling $193,000. In addition, the University of Colorado often matches these awards for students attending CU. The League works in partnership with Impact on Education.

Brayman-Beach $5,000 College Scholarship

The Brayman-Beach College Scholarship is named in honor of two visionary leaders in the credit union movement, Susan J. Brayman and Carroll D. Beach. This scholarship is available to credit union members who are at least 16 years of age and are pursuing an undergraduate business degree. One Brayman-Beach scholarship is awarded annually by the Mountain West Credit Union Foundation.

Poudre School District/Elevations Foundation AVID $2,000 College Scholarship

The AVID Scholarship is for students who have participated in the AVID Program. Decades of College Dreams (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an in-school academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success by developing the skills of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading. During their four years at a Poudre High School, AVID students are enrolled in an elective AVID class that provides academic instruction, tutorial support, study skills and a variety of motivational activities. Typically, these students will be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families. The A.V.I.D. elective supports students as they challenge themselves in college preparatory courses.

A.V.I.D. applications will be available for eligible AVID students in their counseling center of their Poudre School District high school

Required Materials for Applications

You will need the following in order to apply for scholarships administered by Elevations Foundation:

  • Essay (500 words max): Why am I applying for an Elevations Foundation scholarship? Why I want to go to college, and what influenced my decision? (Suggestions: Identify your personal interests and career goals, and provide information relevant to achieving them. This may include educational accomplishments, volunteerism, extracurricular activities or work experience.)
  • Email addresses for two people (other than family members) who can provide recommendations supporting your commitment to your goals.
  • A copy of your high school transcript.
  • A copy of the FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR). This document is issued after submission of the FAFSA application. It serves as a summary of the application, lists information you provided on your FAFSA and includes the “Estimated Family Contribution" (EFC). Download your report at www.fafsa.ed.gov. On the website, look under “FAFSA Follow-up” and select “Print your student aid report.” Do not include the entire FAFSA application; only submit the SAR. 
  • Copy of college or university acceptance letter, preferred. If you have not yet received a letter of acceptance, obtain a letter from your counselor stating the name of the college or university and the date the application for admission was mailed.
  • A recent photo for use in Elevations Credit Union promotional materials. Photos will not be shared with the review committee.

Additionally, if you are selected to receive an Elevations Foundation scholarship, you will need to be a member of Elevations Credit Union if you are not already one. You may join after being notified of your award.
