Ann Schmiesing
Ann was appointed to the Elevations Credit Union Board of Directors in 2024 and elected in 2025. She serves on the Audit and Risk Committee. She has been a University of Colorado (CU) Boulder faculty member since 1995 and a member of Elevations for nearly three decades.
Ann is the senior vice chancellor for strategic initiatives at CU Boulder, where she provides strategic oversight of priority projects and works across internal and external constituencies to advance campus goals. In her three decades at the university, she has served as vice chancellor and executive vice provost for academic resource management, dean of the Graduate School, director of the Sewall Residential Academic Program, and chair of the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures. She has driven initiatives on budget transparency, resource enhancement, faculty and graduate student compensation and benefit improvements, and more. Ann also played a pivotal role in the university’s pandemic response plans and future of work policies. As a CU Boulder German professor, Ann has authored three books and numerous articles and book chapters on topics related to 18th- and 19th-century German and Scandinavian literature and culture. She holds a PhD in German from the University of Cambridge, a master’s from the University of Washington, and a bachelor’s from Willamette University. She lives in Longmont with her husband and two dogs and enjoys bread-baking, knitting, and hiking.
